Our Story

We live in a society that has elevated the act of eating to an obsession. Our bodies need food to live, but instead of eating to live, we now live to eat. You can talk about eating, you can chronicle your eating habits for all your friends to see, but the discussion of what happens beyond that point is taboo.

It seems that everyone laughs or is uncomfortable when the word poop is said, so it’s not a surprise that so many euphemisms exist: take a dump, download a brownload, blast a dookie, bomb the bowel, chop a log, dispense some soft-serve, drop a bomb, bake the brown biscuit, and lay some brick, to name a few.

After seeing hundreds of patients with anal problems, I have come to a realization that the discomfort around discussing bowel movements has led to a whole lot of misinformation and misguidance about it–and many people needlessly suffering with anal problems.

People are also just as uncomfortable talking about the anus. Some people find the word itself offensive or embarrassing. They use words like rear end, bottom, or my favorite, booty. The truth is that anus is a medical term, just as is chest, abdomen and neck. Your bottom is your buttock, but your anus is the area that passes stool. We’ll all be better off if we embrace these words, but in an effort to make everything on this website accessible and comfortable for everyone, I will alternate between all the words we commonly use.

More than 80 percent of people in the U.S., at some point in their lives, experience any of an endless list of booty problems such as pain, bleeding, itching, and discomfort. My goal is to offer education on these topics. Knowledge is power and when we can openly talk about these issues, solutions come to light. People no longer need to suffer in private or live with their problems due to fear or shame.

This website will empower you with knowledge, help you change bad habits, minimize problems, and remind you to talk to your doctor without hesitation. I believe being a surgeon and mother of three gives me a unique perspective. I will delve into intimate topics candidly, emphasizing the integration of natural and medical solutions. My goal is to help as many people as possible, so suggestions for topics are always welcome. Join me in learning about these topics, and empower yourself.
